DJ Mello Bio:
Hip hop has been a major part of Jamal (DJ Mello) Lambert's life since his early years. Born in the streets of Brooklyn, N.Y. and raised in Long Island, N.Y. where he started to DJ at the age of 12, Mello was destined to become a major player in the music business early on.
Backed by his family, Mello’s grandparents encouraged him to pursue his dreams and instilled the work ethic in him necessary to do so. His uncles provided him with the training and the platform to launch his career, starting the family owned and operated DJ company, Music Machine, in the 90’s. Function after function, Mello was provided with opportunities to do what he loves, perform as a disc jockey, in which he did for family events, school parties, weddings, etc.
Working within the family music business and being able to reap the benefits of hands-on learning, Mello also believed that education was a major part of his life. He attended St. John’s University in Queens, N.Y., where he excelled in both academics and sports, as a member of the schools football team while earning his Bachelor’s in Communication Arts.
Upon receiving his degree, Mello decided that he wanted to expand his knowledge of the music business, so he went on to obtain his certificate in audio engineering. While pursuing his engineering certificate, Mello utilized his acquired skills within communication, engineering, production and as a disc jockey, and began dropping mixtapes. He created and distributed his mixtapes via guerilla marketing tactics – him and a team of friends personally hit the streets and stores to network and market his products.
Mello’s experience with networking paid off and on one of his first mixtapes he was able link up with recording artist, Grafh, who hosted it. To keep the buzz going that he started, Mello continued to develop and distribute his mixtapes, using money that he made from working part-time jobs. But it wasn’t until he landed an internship with Jimmy Henchmen's Czar Entertainment that Mello was able to work on the project that would ignite his career.
“DJ Mello on Fire Hosted by Lloyd Banks” was the mixtape that took his career to the next level. The mixtape was noticed in almost every state in the country. MTV Reporter Sway did a special report on Mello’s mixtape, which aired live on the network. And after that mixtape, people from all over the United States expressed interest in finding out more about DJ Mello and began checking for his work. Since then, Mello has done mixtapes with numerous artists including: Busta Rhymes, The Game, Prodigy, Alchemist, Ice T, D Block, Raekwon as well as professional heavy weight boxing champion, Lennox Lewis. He has also made guest appearances as an on-air personality for independent radio station 91.9 FM and as a guest on BET programs. DJ Mello was also a feature DJ on Good Day New York Fox 5.
Mello's work can be found on the internet and in select stores, and his talent with music is consistently being showcased in the club scene. Mello has worked at entertaining audiences at notable club events throughout New York City including at: Guesthouse, Home, Runway, One, Touch, Mars 2112, Stereo, Spy, The Roxy, Sol, Club Deep and many more. He has also done parties for celebrities including Dame Dash, Buffy The Body and Deelishish from VH1’s “Flavor of Love” show, to name a few. Mello’s reliable work ethic and his diverse set of musical skills as a disc jockey, engineer and producer, combined with his appealing personality and determination is what has consumers, radio, labels and other mixtape DJ’s interested in working with him.
