I did it!
Saturday, April 2, 2011 Posted by R3ank at 10:29 PMI finished. My goal for this race was to do just that- finish in one piece, and I actually didn't have to stop and pick my pelvis up off the ground. My knees did great too and I had no knee pain. It was just an overall good race- I was able to run the whole thing (except for having to stop for a minute to stretch at the 12 mile mark after getting a charlie horse in my calf).
Another accomplishment is that I ran it in under 3 hours. If you do the math, you'll realize how very slow I really am (talking 13 minute miles), but I am steady! And under 3 hours is an accomplishment for me- two years ago when I ran the Provo 1/2 marathon, it took me 3 hours, so I shaved about 2 minutes off my time :).
One funny thing about the what caused the charlie horse- James came out with the kids to cheer me on. I so appreciate him doing this- it is something that I look forward to when I am running- to see their little faces and show off for my hubby.
Well, I must admit, every time I would see James I would get this twinge of "oh, I need to run faster, James is looking at me!", and so I kind of tried to pick up my speed at mile 12, and my calf wasn't ready for it, thus the charlie horse. So I got a charlie horse from showing off. :P
I felt strong at the end, and even sprinted to a finish! I felt like I could have run a mile or two more. However, I did find myself wondering how in the world did I manage to run 2 marathons (double what I ran today) in my "pre-having-kids" life. I just couldn't imagine having the energy to go another 13! I am relieved I got that done in my past, and there is no pressure to try and conquer a full marathon ever again.
I am so RELIEVED to have it done with! No more stress and anxiety about having to train!
