A day of service

I am starting to like the simplicity of the Martin Luther King Day holiday.  A day of service- awesome.
He once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

I like the idea of having a holiday where you intentionally set apart some time for some good old fashioned service.

Today for MLK day my sister and I spent the bulk of the day serving our kids (feeding them, changing diapers, helping put shoes and socks on, reading stories and putting them down for naps, wiping their little faces).

We did manage to do a simple act of service with the kids too.  Lisa and I bundled up the kids warm and we went and picked up litter around our neighborhood pond.
On the "hunt" for litter.  That's how they do it here in Arkansas.
 Thatta boy!
It was fun and I think the kids enjoyed it.  That is they enjoyed it when they weren't fighting over pieces of litter (see Johnny's face above).
After the kids filled up their plastic bags, they got to throw rocks/sticks on the frozen iced over pond afterward.  That was cool.  Then inside for hot cocoa!
