New Year's Eve Day we woke up to Tornado sirens at 6 am. I was up with Alice nursing and nudged James who was sleeping soundly beside me "I think those are tornado sirens hun, will you go turn on the news and check?". Sure enough they were. We had had such a pleasant couple days of warm weather- the 30th had a high of 64, low of 55. And then the 31st had had a high of 64 again, but a low of 28. A cold storm had moved in over night and I guess the warm and cold winds were the perfect mix for a tornado.
We woke up the boys and huddled everyone into the bathroom, and grabbed our shoes and a few necessities.
It was kind of exciting, kind of frightening, kind of tiring at the same time. Around 6:45 the tornado warning was lifted and we were able to resume life as normal. Kind of an early start to a day we had planned on trying to sleep in to.
Sadly, there was a tornado that touched down about an hour SW. It killed 4 people. I guess tornadoes don't happen very often around this part of Arkansas, but often enough for the schools and library's to have their bathrooms adorned with a little sign that says "Designated Storm Shelter" on them.
The boys can't wait for another one. They thought sleeping in the bathroom was "so cool".
